Aloha Tanjung Bira

My best friend Fachril has never been to Eastern Indonesia. As a beach lover, he realizes most of beautiful beaches that would make him go crazy are located in the eastern part of the country. He also understands very well that he needs a getaway to freshen up from his demanding job.

One day he decided to book  a return ticket to Makassar. His intention was clear: to visit  Tanjung Bira beach. He made the call after I lured him with pictures of the clear blue water and pristine sandy beach of Bira.

Away For A Day (Photos)

I visited the beach before on Idul Fitri Day.

Nobody  is sure about the beach’s name. Some say it’s called Harlem, some say it’s Arlem, Harlen, some even say it’s Arlen. I don’t know.

Les Plages v.3: Harlem Beach (Photos)

Harlem, or some say Harlen, is a pretty beach located at the De Papre district of Jayapura.
From Jayapura kota, you have to drive to Sentani area, then goes further to reach De Papre pier and continue the journey by renting a boat.

Beside Harlem, there are two other famous beaches located in the district; Tablanusu and Amai. Both can be reached by car, making people visited them more frequent.
Tablanusu is known for its rocky sand, while Amai has brownish sand. A friend said that Harlem is the prettiest of three, and that was the reason why we went there.

Les Plages v.2: Pasir Dua Beach

I remember during my job interview, my boss mentioned that Papua has more public holidays than Jakarta. I never think about that, until last Friday, my colleague asked about my plan for the long weekend.

'Long weekend? What long weekend?' I said.
'Sunday is the 1st day of Pantekosta, and Monday is the 2nd day. All schools and government offices are closed. People go to church and attend mass.' She explained.

The good thing of having a surfer boss is, he always wants to check the tide whenever possible.
So knowing Monday is holiday, he took me to the beach again.
This time, we went to to Pasir Dua Beach.
Took us 10 minutes from Angkasa to get there.

Les Plages v.1: Base G and Skouw

During my first days in Papua, my boss took me to visit some beaches.
To tell you the truth, I'm not a beach person. I don't surf nor dive.
But still, I like the feel when my foot step in the soft sand, and always mesmerized by the pretty sky.
So how can I say no?
